Intracardiac Navigation System
Medtronic LocaLisa® System
The LocaLisa system is a non-fluoroscopic navigation system that tracks multiple intracardiac electrodes. The system was invented by Fred Wittkampf, Ph.D., and is being developed by Surgical Navigation Technologies and EP Systems. Journal Abstracts.
The LocaLisa system uses three skin electrode pairs, positioned in x,y,z directions around the heart to track catheters. Using a reference electrode, three separate low-power RF fields are generated to create three orthogonal fields. This electrical field creates a voltage gradient along its axis, allowing the LocaLisa system to calculate the catheter's position.
Intracardiac catheters can be tracked, and various points of interest can be tagged throughout the procedure. The computer software allows the user to target a specific location, and then automatically measures the distance the catheter is from the target. The software offers bi-plane, as well as the standard RAO, CRA, LAO and CAU views.
RF ablation data from the Atakr or other RF generators can be stored within the LocaLisa software, and then displayed if desired. This system is a cost saving way to navigate the endocardial surface of the heart, without extensive fluoroscopy or other expensive equipment. The three dimensional field created uses surface leads, and no extra expensive catheters are required.
