Arthrex AR-6400 arthroscopic irrigation/distention pumps can create pressures within the patient's joint that are more than twice the desired pressure without alerting the clinician, increasing the potential for serious patient injury due to extra capsular solution infiltration. Facilities need to thoroughly understand the behavior of these pumps and determine whether the clinical benefits of using them outweigh the solution-infiltration concerns. If your facility is not comfortable with the behavior of these pumps, use an alternative pump.

The Arthrex AR-6400 Continuous Wave II arthroscopy pump features a maximum flow rate of 1.6L per minute which keeps joints distended when used with the most aggressive shaver systems. Pressure and flow rates can be adjusted separately to provide hemostasis without using a tourniquet. A remote control allows pressure and flow adjustments on the surgical field when used with a sterile drape.
