Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) is an analytical technique used for the elemental analysis or chemical characterization of a sample. It is one of the variants of X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy which relies on the investigation of a sample through interactions between electromagnetic radiation and matter, analyzing X-rays emitted by the matter in response tbeing hit with charged particles. Its characterization capabilities are due in large part the fundamental principle that each element has a unique atomic structure allowing X-rays that are characteristic of an element's atomic structure to be identified uniquely from one another.

4pi Revolution EDX Electronics with Detector
Universal Spectral Engine Developed and manufactured by 4pi, the "back-end" electronics of all systems is a stand-alone unit with a small footprint (8.5" x 16.5" x 19"). The unit contains a digital pulse processor, digital image acquisition and scan-control hardware, and Ethernet interface. The Universal Spectral Engine interfaces to any Windows or Macintosh computer that has an Ethernet port.
