Critical Mass
The American public has finally reached a consensus that can't be ignored: The healthcare system needs an overhaul. Of course we have the best healthcare in the world. The trouble is so many of us can't afford it. Life altering decisions such as job choices and even marriage are often predicated not on one's personal and professional desires, but on the need for health insurance.
I have two friends who got married after a long relationship only when one got sick. Coincidence? I think not since the other had a great health plan. A different friend actually had to leave her job to ensure her future health coverage. Weird as it sounds, she was offered a buyout that guaranteed health benefits for life. If she kept her job, what if the company downsized again but without the same offer?
Only in America could such things happen. Other advanced countries have socialized medicine, which of course brings perils of its own.
Be sure to read about the presidential candidates' positions on this vital topic in September's DOTmed Business News.
See you next week!
