Sound Ideas

Today's DOTmed News includes several cutting-edge ultrasound applications. The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences is trying ultrasound to vibrate a clot and improve the efficacy of blood thinners. In addition, a Philips partnership in ultrasound-mediated gene therapy is exploiting a process known as sonoporation to increase the uptake of gene therapy.

In another report, nerve blocks using ultrasound are superior to general anesthesia in mastectomy because the nerve block doesn't pose a threat to the lungs. Also, patients recover faster and there are even indications that cancer outcomes are better.

Also in the news, previews of two shows that DOTmed will attend next week: FIME and AHRA.
