ReMedPar Goes Global, Eyes Local Presence in Europe

by Barbara Kram, Editor
ReMedPar is aggressively expanding its business internationally with a focus on the European market, DOTmed News has learned. The company, which is the largest independent provider of medical diagnostic imaging parts in the U.S., is also growing its business by serving many established and emerging independent imaging service providers (ISOs) overseas as here in the U.S. with a specific focus on CT, MRI and a broad range of X-ray modalities. These efforts began shortly after the arrival of ReMedPar's new President and CEO, Rob Piconi, who joined ReMedPar in last November and has been focusing on scaling the business to support a broader, global customer base.

While clearly not as mature as the U.S. market in receptivity to third party parts and service solutions, Europe has progressed rapidly the last five years with the emergence of independent service operators that provide solutions as an alternative to the typical OEM maintenance and service offerings. Eastern Europe, the Middle East and many southern European nations such as Italy, Greece, Spain and Portugal have been very receptive to alternative solutions that offer the quality assurance and technical service support of an OEM but at a much lower cost structure.

ReMedPar has not made any formal announcements about its strategy, but its recent participation in many European medical events and conferences has been telling.

"We see a lot of opportunity both domestically and internationally right now, especially with the current economic climate which has created heightened interest and demand for our solutions," said Rob Piconi, President and CEO of ReMedPar. "The international markets and their equipment service decision makers have become more aware of our solutions and thus more interested in buying them. When we explain our test engineering and quality assurance processes for parts coupled with the responsiveness and technical support of our local service partners, the response is overwhelmingly positive."

While Piconi would not specifically outline their plans or customer sets for Europe, he confirmed that it is a key area of focus for the company. "We see dynamics in Europe very similar to what we experienced in the late 1980s in the U.S. market which led to the original founding of our company--emergence of third party service and parts solutions, followed by a rapid adoption rate in the private and public hospital networks," he reflected. "The economics are compelling. We are broadening our investments and application of our unique inventory and quality assurance model for parts, training and technical support solutions," he added. "Europe is no different from the U.S. in its demand for the highest quality and fastest response time, so any expansion plans we pursue will reflect this model in a localized capacity."
