MEDICA 2009 Preview

The 41st World Forum for Medicine International Trade Fair with Congress will be held November 18-21, 2009 in Dusseldorf, Germany.

For all those involved in the health care industry, MEDICA is the center of attraction with more than 135,000 visitors from over 100 countries expected to attend this year's event. Those attending will obtain valuable information on all current and future trends in in-patient and out-patient care, through MEDICA's extensive ancillary program, numerous special events, two major congresses and the largest product display in the industry.

"With its high level of attendance in terms of visitors and exhibitors, MEDICA can hold its own very well. Companies do not want to experiment with their exhibiting dollars, especially at the moment, preferring to focus on the world's number one trade fair in the sector. Here, quality and quantity are perfect - both on the supply and demand side," commented Horst Giesen, Project Director of MEDICA 2009.

Wilhelm Niedergöker, Managing Director at Messe Dusseldorf GmbH says, "An outstanding feature of MEDICA is its great international flair. Approx. 55,000 of the 137,000 trade visitors registered at MEDICA 2008 came from abroad, representing a total of 100 countries. In terms of exhibitor participation the level of internationality was recently even as high as 70%. Exhibitors from 65 nations were represented. This means, those taking part in MEDICA as exhibitors do not only have their sights set on the German market. Conversely, visitors greatly appreciate that they are presented at one time and place unparalleled, comprehensive ranges fulfilling both in- and outpatient medical demands."

Presently, the leading foreign exhibitor nations are Italy, China, France, Great Britain, Spain, the Netherlands and the United States. Additionally, the trade show will feature two U.S. Pavilions, organized by Messe Dusseldorf North America.

According to Mr. Giesen, it is not just about the international flavor of the event, but the range of exhibits at MEDICA 2009. He says the market is not oriented to specific product segments but to process-oriented procedures for the diagnosis and therapy of different conditions with all the solutions required for this. Here, MEDICA also focuses on key interface aspects such as those between medical imaging and medical IT or between modern diagnostic and lab automation. Exhibits will include the latest products for in-patient and out-patient care including electro medicine/medical device technology, laboratory equipment/diagnostics, physiotherapy/orthopedic technology, medical products, information and communication technology as well as textiles, medical furnishing, interior design and building management technology.

New applications of integral diagnostics and therapy of cancer diseases will be at the centre of this year's new international Congress program. Renowned developers and users will shed some light on the innovative solutions from various perspectives chaired by Dr. Hans-Ulrich Kauczor and Dr. Jurgen Debus (Heidelberg University Clinic).

For the first time ever, the annual meeting of the "Rheinisch-Westfalische Gesellschaft fur Innere Medizin e. V." (Rhineland-Westphalian Society for Internal Medicine) will be held as part of MEDICA. Under the heading "Update Multi-disciplinary Internal Medicine" the society will provide not only internal physicians, but also other specialists with a condensed continuous medical education programme on new trends in the treatment of the major internal clinical patterns. The chair of the conference, Dr. Rainer Haas (Dusseldorf University Clinic), has compiled continuous education modules for the big sub-disciplines of internal medicine - i.e. cardiology, gastroenterology, endocrinology and geriatrics - that link state-of-the art developments with hands-on knowledge for daily medical practice.
