Bermuda Hospitals Board Introduces Electronic Medical Charting With MEDHOST at its Emergency Care Facilities

ADDISON, Texas MEDHOST, provider of the leading Emergency Department Information System (EDIS), has announced that the Bermuda Hospitals Board (BHB) has introduced MEDHOST's full-suite software at its King Edward VII Memorial Hospital (KEMH) and new Lamb Foggo Urgent Care Centre (UCC). As Bermuda's only hospital and urgent care center, shifting to the electronic system removes manual, paper processes and revolutionizes the way BHB prioritizes and documents patient care. BHB chose MEDHOST because of the system's user-friendly design, customization capabilities and numerous integration successes.

With MEDHOST's intuitive touch screen technology, the clinicians at KEMH and the Lamb Foggo UCC are able to quickly and easily document patient care, which improves accuracy, reduces the chance for errors, and brings new levels of efficiency and patient care.

"We selected MEDHOST after seeing the system fully operational during a site visit and receiving an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from that hospital's clinical staff. They spoke highly of MEDHOST's ease of use and ongoing support, and these were key criteria for our vendor selection," said Dr. Roslyn Bascombe-Adams, ED deputy director at KEMH. "Most important, we witnessed first-hand the system's versatility and the operational efficiencies it delivers. It became abundantly clear that with MEDHOST, we could accomplish our productivity and patient satisfaction goals. Since implementation we have found that the printed Discharge Instructions have been especially appreciated by our patients."

By eliminating manual, paper-based processes, KEMH and the Lamb Foggo UCC gain numerous benefits, including robust data and customizable reports that monitor key performance indicators, giving ED management a way to proactively identify and mitigate potential process breakdowns. Other MEDHOST features include a Patient Tracking module that offers real-time notifications about each patient's status, an automatic Charge Capture feature that calculates charges as care is documented, and risk mitigation tools such as automatic allergy checking and drug-drug interaction alerts.

"MEDHOST shares the Bermuda Hospitals Board's commitment of changing the way emergency care is delivered. We're excited to help both facilities transition to automated processes and achieve their productivity and patient care goals," said Craig Herrod, president and CEO of MEDHOST. "This marks MEDHOST's second deployment outside the continental U.S., an exciting milestone for the company, and we're eager to deliver the same value and results as we've provided to hundreds of other facilities."

MEDHOST currently serves more than 170 facilities, including Catholic Healthcare West in California, Catholic Health System in New York, Tenet Healthcare Corporation and several academic facilities across the U.S. MEDHOST is the preferred EDIS provider of VHA Inc., a national cooperative serving more than 2,400 not for profit healthcare organizations. MEDHOST easily integrates with leading hospital information systems, including MEDITECH, Cerner, Siemens and McKesson.
