HB Enterprises now distributes Scan Optics ophthalmic instruments

The Florida procurement, export/import company is bringing eye-saving technology to developing nations.

Globally there are 40 million blind people and 110 million people with seriously impaired vision at great risk of going blind. It's one of the most heart-wrenching realities of lack of adequate health care in developing nations. The majority of at risk individuals are located in areas with scare medical resources or where it is difficult to deliver high quality health care. For example, basic care and delivery of cataract surgery could restore vision to untold numbers of sufferers.

"All human beings are given one pair of eyes for our entire lifetime. Our eyes enable us to see and read, all very vital daily functions. Proper eye care is therefore extremely important and that includes getting the best ophthalmic care from the best ophthalmic equipment," said Hugh B. Bailey, President and CEO of HB Enterprises, LLC, West Palm Beach, Fla. The Florida procurement, export/import company is now distributing Scan Optics technology, including ophthalmic microscopes, to developing nations.

Scan Optics specializes in delivering low-maintenance, state-of-the-art equipment that meets the needs of users in remote and urban locations. Scan Optics was established in 1987 as makers of portable ophthalmic equipment for eye surgery. Their battery-powered equipment is designed for the demanding conditions of remote locales, where electrical power is frequently unreliable, where service and maintenance must be performed by the user, and where mold and corrosion are often problems. The equipment is portable and rugged to withstand the rigors of frequent transport.

"The availability of best practices ophthalmic medical/surgical equipment is often too costly and difficult to find and maintain in developing countries," Bailey told DOTmed News. "Scan Optics ophthalmic medical/surgical microscopes are so well made that they are virtually maintenance free, come with fungicidal pellets protecting them from mold; come with LED lighting that eliminates the need for replacement bulbs, are energy efficient, and are free of infrared radiation (IR)."

Most important, the instruments are modestly priced, Bailey said.

HB Enterprises is seeking medical equipment suppliers who already have a strong client base to whom the firm can distribute Scan Optics products. Clients could be end-users like ophthalmologists, eye clinics, medical schools, philanthropic or charitable donor organizations, and veterinarians. "I am interested in serving not just human health, but also the niche of veterinary ophthalmologists," Bailey said. "Please help us 'save eyes' by spreading the word about these readily available, reliable and high-quality, vision-saving instruments," he said.

HB's territory is the Caribbean, Central and Latin America, and the USA.

"Scan Optics' portable equipment is ideal for users around the world, whether in developing countries, or the USA," he said.
