Austin, TX - CynergisTek™, a leading provider of IT security solutions for healthcare organizations, today announced that its CEO, Mac McMillan, who also serves as the Chair of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Privacy and Security Steering Committee, will present at the HIMSS Southern California Chapter (SoCal HIMSS). The conference will take place on January 13 in Orange, CA.

SoCal HIMSS is one of forty-six affiliated chapters of HIMSS, the largest healthcare information systems professional organization in the US. Its purpose is to bring together healthcare professionals in order to promote the exchange of knowledge among its colleagues and to assist members in their professional growth. SoCal HIMSS accomplishes these objectives by presenting educational seminars and conferences, hosting networking opportunities, and by creating a forum for the exchange of ideas among those committed to the goal of improving patient care through the effective use of information technology (IT).

McMillan's presentation titled, "A Data-Centric Approach to Protecting Patient Information and Achieving Data Breach Notification Safe Harbor," will review best practices and strategies that healthcare organizations should implement in order to ensure patient privacy and security. McMillan will discuss how to integrate first-class IT security from a data-centric security perspective, which involves examining where data resides, and then architecting security around it to determine appropriate access by authorized users - instead of focusing solely on compliance.

"I am pleased to speak at the SoCal HIMSS Conference in an effort to further the organization's mission of transforming healthcare by teaching others, through events like this, how to implement effective IT and management systems," said McMillan. "Now more than ever, healthcare organizations need to focus on implementing data-centric healthcare IT security programs in order to protect patient information and IT systems, and I hope that my presentation will provide attendees with useful steps to do this successfully."
McMillan's "Data-Centric Approach to Protecting Patient Information and Achieving Data Breach Notification Safe Harbor" presentation will take place on Thursday, January 13 from 8:30 - 9:30 am at the Children's Hospital of Orange County at the Wade Center on 455 S Main Street in Orange, California.
