University of Nebraska - Lincoln Health Center Implements Wireless ImagePilot Aero System

Wayne, NJ - Konica Minolta Medical Imaging announced today that the University of Nebraska-Lincoln University Health Center has recently installed the wireless ImagePilot Aero all-in-one DR solution. The University Health Center is a full- service clinic that provides care to approximately 300 patients each day, with services including on-site primary imaging radiology. The Center is technologically advanced with several information systems, including an EHR (electronic health record), which interfaces with their PACS (picture archiving and communication system), AeroDR, laboratory, pharmacy and dental software, UNL's Student Information System and UNL's Bursars office.

"The most important reason for implementing the ImagePilot Aero is the ability for greater dose efficiency as compared to CR, also referred to as computed digital radiography," says Christine Rindone, EHR Manager and Chief Radiologic Technologist at the University Health Center. "That is very important considering our primary patient demographics are young adults-our students."

"When the CR unit was near its end of life, we recommended UNL consider moving to DR, and specifically the ImagePilot Aero," says Blake Levasseur, Vice President, CSI, a Konica Minolta distributor. "We believe the Aero provides the best technology available on the market today. Konica Minolta manufactures its own product and the quality stands out in the industry. Plus, with a five-year hardware support contract from the manufacturer, we looked at the total cost of ownership and it just made economic sense for UNL to select it."

According to Rindone and Valerie Otto, Radiologic Technologist, ImagePilot Aero has streamlined workflow and enabled faster exam times. "The speed of the system is most impressive and the images are available nearly instantaneous," says Otto. "The quality and detail of the images are excellent, and that enables us to provide better patient care. Additionally, with the wireless panel we no longer have to move the patient as much with each exposure, as with CR, so it is a more comfortable exam for the patient."

ImagePilot Aero interfaces directly with the PACS and EHR, which is important for the digital workflow at the Center. Rindone explains the Center relies on the EHR to disseminate information to both the students and the providers. The providers and nurses use wireless tablets during patient visits to view and document.

With an industry-only lithium-ion capacitor, ImagePilot Aero has a charge and discharge life significantly longer than a lithium ion battery. Otto is able to re-charge the plate in a matter of minutes as needed, an important feature for the clinic.
