How Will the Changes at Dunlee Affect the Market?

by Philip F. Jacobus, CEO | July 16, 2014
One of our most read stories this year was the brief summary of the notice DOTmed received from Dunlee about changes changes in management there.

Of course, everyone that knows Pat Fitzgerald wishes him well. He has been in the business a long time and has probably forgotten more than most of us know.

Laura Hafner will assume the leadership role for the Generators, Tubes and Components Division Third Party Business under the Dunlee brand. She has a reputation for being very down-to-earth and very, very capable.

I cannot wait to see what Dunlee decides to do about the future. Honestly, I believe that Dunlee is in a position more than any other company that I can think of to influence the future of the market, not only in the United States, but around the world.

Almost everyone will agree that the concept of independent service and/or alternative service provided by hospital personnel originated in the
United States. More than any other country, the United States supports innovative entrepreneurs who think outside the box and look for new ways to solve problems.

It is easier to communicate in the United States and to do business across state borders. In part because we have had a healthy infrastructure that makes it possible for us to find just about anything we need or do just about anything we can think of doing.

It is in that environment that alternative service has grown.

Markets outside the United States have witnessed our growth and learned from us.

Dunlee, more than any other company, has helped to foster that independent and alternative thinking.

As an arms-length investor in a number of imaging centers, I know they have grown in part because of Dunlee.

I for one, will be very interested to see what happens in the future. However,I am not the only one - 20 people have called me last week to discuss these changes.

I am sure that all of us will be very interested to learn what Diedrich Dirks meant when he said, "The continued expansion and growth of our commercial Third Party business remains an important element to our growth strategy."

It makes me think of what Bono is credited with saying: The world is more malleable than you think and it is waiting for you to hammer it into shape.
