Technology tools for providers to connect to new patients

CHEYENNE, Wyo. /PRNewswire/ - A recently launched service that connects patients and medical providers has just announced the release of new features on its platform. Galen, a cloud-based marketplace for outpatient medical services, has introduced new tools that enable providers of medical services to list their service prices, publish appointment availability, communicate appointment delays, and enable automated appointment scheduling directly with patients. These tools are available for free to any medical provider who registers with Galen.

With its launch last summer, Galen let registered medical providers define and publish cash prices for their services through its integrated platform. This platform is composed of web and mobile technologies that enable patients to search for services near them based upon their symptoms, and to compare prices and other provider features in real-time. This release adds several new features to help streamline appointment scheduling and communication between the patient and the provider.

Similar to popular online restaurant reservation services, patients can find providers and view the next several available appointment slots while they are comparing different providers. According to Dr. Eric Hoyer, Chief Medical Officer for Galen, "By giving our registered providers the ability to let patients know about their schedules, they can attract those patients who want to see a doctor quickly, but know that an Emergency Room visit is the wrong choice. We help patients get the care they need in a timely way while helping providers easily fill up the holes in their schedule."

Another new feature with this upgrade is an integrated ability to communicate schedule delays directly to the mobile devices of patients. A problem for some patients is showing up for a late afternoon appointment and finding out that the doctor is running 15-90 minutes behind. This creates tremendous frustration. Providers who list their offerings and schedule through Galen can use integrated communication tools to communicate delays to patients with the click of a button. By giving advance notice of the delay, providers can help scheduled patients keep from sitting in the waiting room for long periods of time before their appointment.

Medical providers can register with Galen for free at their website https://provider.galen.me by walking through a wizard. New registrants are contacted by Galen and, once enabled, can immediately begin to manage their service and appointment offerings. These updates are published directly to registered Galen users.
