Cleveland Clinic and Candescent Health announced today that they have entered into a multi-year partnership with the goal of transforming radiology care. An efficient, nationwide, cloud-based radiology network and improved workflow processes are how they plan on doing that.

“The overall goal of our future product developments with Cleveland Clinic is to help the radiology community improve quality and productivity by expanding technology and clinical expertise to health systems throughout the country,” Scott Siedelmann, CEO of Candescent Health, told HCB News.

Candescent Health’s new RadPerform is a mix of cloud-based software, personal service and data analytics. It provides radiologists with 24-hour support to expedite cases, solve issues and enable communication with clinicians and technologists.

RadPerform was designed by radiologists to manage one of the country’s biggest multi-location practices. Because of that, almost a decade’s worth of data has been aggregated, analyzed and measured to help radiologists achieve better outcomes.

Siedelmann believes that the health care industry needs to realize that since radiology is already digital, it can be measured and delivered to any location at any time. It is also one of the few medical specialties where the whole workflow from routing and analyzing images to building reports and communicating with the care teams has that capability.

“Radiology has the ability to take the well-understood, high-valued service of medical imaging and apply the same methods to its delivery model that have been used with great success for years in call centers and back office automation,” said Siedelmann.

Dr. Michael Phillips, director of the Center for Business Development, Imaging Institute at Cleveland Clinic, believes that it’s important to focus on transforming radiology care now because they have the technology to do it, and systems that allow them to flex their care across places. In addition, there is also significant pressure to reduce costs.

“By matching the right image with the right sub-specialty radiologist, an accurate and rapid interpretation can be provided which will expedite care the patient receives,” said Phillips. “This is important because it allows us to efficiently take the best possible care of our patients.”
