Hi, do you know how many people wear contact lenses (also known simply as a "contacts") in the world? It's said about 125 million people use them worldwide, including 28 to 38 million in the US and 13 million in Japan.

Why people prefer to wear contact lenses instead of glasses? I think that many consider contacts are more suitable in many ways, especially for people who play sporting activities, and our appearance to be more attractive with contacts than with glasses. Also when you eat hot noodle or soup, contacts do not steam up!

I have worn regular soft contacts, which are two-week disposable, for many years. However, when I went to an optical place to buy new contacts on Saturday, I was suggested to wear toric* lenses to correct my vision because I have a big amount of astimatism** in both of my eyes. I knew I had had that problem in my eyes, yet I have been ok with the regular lenses.

Once I changed lenses from regular to toric lenses, my vision became a lot clearer as if I were in a different world. I should have chosen the better ones sooner, right?

I know some people are afraid of putting a foreign object (contact lenses) in the eyes, but if you think in functional ways, take off your glasses and try to wear contacts instead!

** Astimatism is the most common vision problem, and in an eye with irregular surface, light rays skewed and don't achieve single point of focus.

* Toric lenses have two different powers in the lens, so they must remain in position for best visual acuity. Some toric lenses are heavier (ballasted) at the bottom to keep from rotating.
