This morning at the Radiological Society of North America annual conference, Change Healthcare announced partnerships with four renowned health systems to further develop its cloud-native Enterprise Imaging Network.

“The development partners will have a crucial role in making sure we solve real problems today, as well as driving to a grander vision of enterprise imaging,” Tomer Levy, vice president/general manager of Change Healthcare Enterprise Imaging, told HCB News.

The partners include Bronson Healthcare in Michigan, Community Health Systems Professional Services Corporation, Montefiore Nyack Hospital in New York, University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and UW Health, Madison Wisconsin. Each will provide continuous feedback on the solution so Change Healthcare can make any necessary improvements.
The Enterprise Imaging Network was developed along with Google and is available on the Google Cloud Platform. It features an imaging archive that manages imaging from multiple locations, an image viewer, an imaging analytics dashboard that displays near-real-time data, as well as Change Healthcare AI Orchestration Services.

Change Healthcare has strategic relationships with the three leading cloud vendors and has leveraged each vendor for different parts of its portfolio. The company felt that Google Cloud was the right fit for this product.

“In the case of Enterprise Imaging we have found that Google's technology has advantages that, if implemented right, can deliver superior performance,” said Levy. “One good example is Google's proprietary network that can handle large data sets better.”

According to the company, the Enterprise Imaging Network can help health systems improve clinical, financial and operational outcomes. That’s due to the fact that it stores data in a way that allows providers to more easily derive insight, is offered at a fixed price, doesn’t require operating system patching and has better cybersecurity.

Together, the four partner health systems manage 124 hospitals and generate more than 5.6 million studies annually. They plan to migrate over 66 million studies to the Enterprise Imaging Network, which means more than 2.8 petabytes will be handled by the solution.

These implementations are anticipated to go live in the first half of 2020.
