President of Proton Services, Inc. Finds the Imaging Environment Exciting and Fun

by Joan Trombetti , Writer

Proton Services, Inc., Sayreville, NJ, is a full radiological service company that repairs, sells, and installs all types of whole body diagnostic imaging scanners throughout the East Coast. President Gary Provenzano has been servicing MRI scanners since 1983, and he says that Proton Services purchases used systems and stocks other assemblies to help back up contract customers with locally kept tested parts. MRI and CT service is concentrated on Siemens, Philips /Picker/Marconi, GE, Toshiba, and Hitachi.

"Working around the Imaging environment is just as much fun now as it was in the exciting early days of MRI and CT 25 years ago," Provenzano says. "Each OEM's philosophy and approach carries on through their next level of technology."

"We do cryogen fills," he adds. "Magnet maintenance is a little more complicated than just filling--we monitor magnet pressure, cold head performance, chiller and heat exchanger performance, boiloff, and fittings, on each PM."

Proton Services now directly repairs MRI, CT, Dexa, and Ultrasound; and asset manages chillers, mammo and some X-ray, for their multi-modality customers. They do most coil repairs on site, which is much faster than sending them out. "We can tune the coils to the exact on-site magnet frequency for our contract customers. Our rates are a fraction of what OEMs charge. Our uptime record and quality of service is unmatched," says Provenzano.

Proton Services, Inc. gets its name from the fact that MRI images are created from the spinning protons in the human body, but that doesn't limit the company to just MRI. "CT is now about 40 percent of our business, and DOTmed has been a big part of our success," states Provenzano.
