North Dakota Radiologists Can Receive Free Mammography Educational CD

by Becky Jacoby, Reporter
In a joint project, the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the North Dakota Department of Health plan to distribute 70 complimentary copies of a Mammography Case Review CD (MCR4) prepared by the ACR. Radiologists in North Dakota may obtain a copy from any of the 43 ACR-accredited mammography facilities located in the state.

The MCR4 program provides a means for radiologists to grow their skills through evaluation of multiple cases. The real-world cases permit the radiologist an online experience of detecting abnormalities and diseases such as cancer using mammography in preparation for patient care.

The CD program allows the radiologist to self-evaluate and review the case as many times as necessary to improve his or her skill level. The learning curve is online rather than on the patient.

Noting mammography as the gold standard for detecting breast cancer and that mammograms help save lives, Harvey L. Neiman, MD, FACR, CEO ACR said, "Mammograms remain one of the most challenging exams for radiologists to interpret. The ACR is proud to offer this important tool to help radiologists better interpret this extremely important exam which is of paramount importance in the battle against breast cancer."

Up to nine AMA Category 1 credits are available to participants in North Dakota who successfully complete the program. Radiologists who complete the program are eligible for up to three Self-Assessment Module credits from the American Board of Radiology.
