Siemens Nursing Officer Awarded Prestigious American Academy of Nursing Fellowship

by Barbara Kram, Editor
Malvern, Pa. -- Gail Latimer, MSN, RN, FACHE, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer for Siemens Healthcare has been selected by the American Academy of Nursing (AAN) as one of the 2009 new Fellows. This prestigious honor will be bestowed upon her, along with 98 other nurse leaders, during the Academy's 36th Annual Meeting & Conference in Atlanta, Ga., November 7.

The Academy's 1,500 Fellows are nursing leaders in education, management, practice and research, and include nursing executives, hospital chief executives, policy makers, university presidents, among others. Latimer is one of only a handful of nurses in AAN history from a healthcare solutions provider to be offered this Fellowship and joins Siemens Rosemary Kennedy, RN, MBA, CNIO, who achieved this milestone in 2008.

"Siemens is extremely proud of Gail's recent AAN Fellowship achievement," said Janet Dillione, CEO, Health Services business unit, Siemens Healthcare. "This recognition helps underscore her contributions to the nursing profession and the respect she has gained in this capacity. As a Siemens nurse executive, Gail contributes significantly towards Siemens' strategy to improve healthcare delivery by providing nurses with innovative technology-based solutions and personalized education that help them provide the highest levels of patient care. Through her deep commitment to advancing the professional practice of nursing and her collaborative industry involvement, Gail is an asset to our customers, as well as the industry at large."

Latimer's invitation to Fellowship recognizes her accomplishments within the nursing profession and affords Siemens the opportunity to share ideas and help develop new strategies for nurses to drive the transformation of America's healthcare system. She was nominated for this honor by two current Academy Fellows and was selected by the Academy's 15-member Fellow Selection Committee. Selection criteria included evidence of significant contributions to nursing and healthcare and are based, in part, on the extent to which nominees'nursing careers influence health policies for the benefit of all Americans.

The Siemens Healthcare Sector is one of the world's largest suppliers to the healthcare industry. The company is a renowned medical solutions provider with core competence and innovative strength in diagnostic and therapeutic technologies as well as in knowledge engineering, including information technology and system integration.
