GE cuts jobs at

GE Healthcare Conducts Layoff in Wisconsin

by Barbara Kram, Editor
GE Healthcare is cutting jobs at its Waukesha, WI campus. While the total positions cut were not released, the company said the figure is fewer than 400. As well as a global health technology leader, the company is a major local business for the region employing about 7,000.

GE cited the DRA as a contributing factor in downsizing. As reported widely in DOTmed Online News and DOTmed Business News, the Deficit Reduction Act, which took effect January 1, 2007, cut Medicare reimbursements for medical imaging studies in non-hospital settings, causing a ripple effect throughout several medical business sectors.

"This directly impacts our customers economically, limiting their ability to reinvest in clinically relevant technology, which has a tremendous impact on patient care and on our business," GE Spokesperson Brian McKaig said in a statement.

Affected employees will be receiving outplacement assistance, according to GE.
