Cabrini Medical Center Installs 200th SOMATOM SENSATION 64 CT System in U.S.
March 05, 2006
MALVERN, Pa., March 1, 2006 - Siemens Medical Solutions' 64-slice computed tomography (CT) technology has continued to set new benchmarks in CT imaging over the past year. As a testament to this success, Cabrini Medical Center has become the 200th medical facility in the U.S. to install the SOMATOM Sensation© 64 CT system, the world's fastest and most advanced single source CT system. The Sensation 64 provides physicians with more information to detect and diagnose conditions earlier.
"Since installing Siemens' Sensation 64, we have received calls daily from referring doctors asking about the system and scheduling time for their patients," said Michael Poon, M.D., chief of cardiology, Cardiac CT, Cabrini Medical Center. "The Sensation 64 is without question the most highly advanced single source CT scanner, offering unprecedented image resolution and the ability to complete entire scans in a matter of 10 to 15 seconds. This system is key to providing a full spectrum of medical services to our patients in a caring and compassionate way."
Located in the heart of New York City, Cabrini Medical Center is a voluntary hospital sponsored by the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and is a member of The Mount Sinai Health System, an affiliate of Mount Sinai School of Medicine and an associate member of the Catholic Health Care Network. Using the Sensation 64 in all aspects of the business - in- and out-patient service, the emergency room, and in cardiac, neurological and abdominal studies, the system has provided Cabrini Medical Center the opportunity to detect and diagnosis disease states earlier.
Siemens 64-Slice CT Leads The Way
With more than 600 installed worldwide, the SOMATOM Sensation 64 is the gold standard in CT today. Over 40 percent of these installations include the SOMATOM Sensation Cardiac 64, which specifically helps diagnose and treat cardiovascular disease. More than 80 percent of clinical research published to date on cardiac CT has involved Siemens' CT technology. Medical facilities, ranging from larger learning institutions to diagnostic imaging centers, have realized the benefits of 64-slice technology - increased patient access and positioning, advancing speed and image quality, and improved clinical workflow and efficiency.
*\tElkhart General Healthcare System, providing comprehensive medical care to Elkhart and surrounding Indiana and Michigan communities for more than 100 years, installed the SOMATOM Sensation 64 in November 2004. Working 24 hours a day/seven days a week, the system has allowed this medium-sized community hospital to provide high-end, state-of-the-art CT imaging usually only available at larger academic medical facilities.
*\tZwanger Pesiri Radiology Group, a state-of-the-art radiologic services group serving the central Long Island community for more than 45 years, recently purchased four SOMATOM Sensation 64 CT systems. The four facilities will offer all CT services, including CT Angiography (CTA), cranial CTA, cardiac, virtual colonography and general body imaging.
"The SOMATOM Sensation 64 has continued to set records in CT imaging," said Scott Goodwin, vice president, CT Division, Siemens Medical Solutions. "The system represents huge advancements in CT by revolutionizing patient access and positioning, advancing speed and image quality, and increasing clinical workflow and efficiency, ultimately improving patient care and treatment options."
The SOMATOM Sensation 64 is the world's fastest and most advanced single source CT system. Known for outstanding capabilities such as Siemens z-SharpTM Technology, which doubles the scanner's data acquisition capacity, the system provides unprecedented image quality and can acquire images of the smallest intracranial, pulmonary, mesenteric, and peripheral vessels in less than 10 seconds. The shorter scanning times improve the physicians' ability to diagnose and treat disease states earlier and more accurately, while significantly increasing patient comfort.
