Elevating the Standard of Breast Care for Women
March 25, 2006
Siemens Medical Solutions showcased its complete women's health solution at the National Consortium of Breast Centers (NCBC) 2006 Conference, which was held from March 12 though March 15 in Las Vegas. Elevating the standard of breast care for women, Siemens' comprehensive, integrated approach enables physicians to detect, diagnose, and treat breast cancer faster and more effectively.
According to the World Health Organization, more than 1.2 million people will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year alone, making it the most common cancer among women. Early detection and successful treatment are key in the fight against the disease. By combining advanced imaging and information technologies, Siemens helps physicians not only detect and diagnose breast cancer in its earliest stages, but also treat it aggressively. From screening and diagnosis to treatment and follow-up, Siemens' comprehensive, integrated approach to breast care supports patients across the care continuum and facilitates earlier diagnostic and therapeutic decisions, enabling medical facilities and women's health centers to improve the quality of care and workflow.
"As women's health centers welcome an influx of new patients, they're faced with the complex task of optimizing the service and technology mix, while enhancing financial performance," said Tom McCausland, president, Siemens Medical Solutions USA. "Siemens is at the forefront of innovation in women's health, offering a single source for all of our customers' breast care needs. By providing a complete solution, we can help them achieve financial success, while maintaining outstanding quality patient care."
At NCBC 2006, Siemens highlighted a broad range of its mammography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and ultrasound solutions, including:
-- MAMMOMAT(R) NovationDR full-field digital mammography system - Designed to meet the demands of modern mammography facilities, MAMMOMAT NovationDR provides digital screening, diagnosis, and stereotactic biopsy capabilities - all in one system. At 24X29 centimeters, the size of the MAMMOMAT NovationDR image detector allows imaging of a wider range of patient breast sizes, and its paddle design enables easier and more comfortable patient positioning.
-- syngo(R) MammoReport multi-modality workstation - Working in conjunction with the MAMMOMAT NovationDR, MammoReportPlus provides ultra-fast, high-volume mammogram reading, permitting users to switch between eight-view mammographic studies in less than one second.
-- syngo MRI Women's Health Suite - As part of the standard configuration for Siemens' MAGNETOM(R) MRI systems with Tim(R) (Total imaging matrix) technology, syngo MRI Women's Health Suite includes dedicated protocols in various orientations, providing image assessment in any plane and increasing diagnostic confidence with techniques such as bilateral VIEWS. In addition, DynaCAD(TM) provides radiologists with Siemens-optimized CAD tools to assist doctors in detecting disease earlier, and streamlines workflow by managing the large volume of images involved in today's studies.
-- MRI software applications, including RADIANT and BRACE - Increasing diagnostic confidence, RADIANT, Siemens' unique 3D image reconstruction technique, provides clinicians with a 360-degree view of the breast. BRACE is a new soft tissue motion correction software, which removes motion artifacts that commonly occur when the patient moves during the exam, enabling the physician to make an more accurate diagnosis.
-- The ACUSON Antares(TM) ultrasound system, premium edition - A complete ultrasound system, this premium performance solution provides highly upgradeable and comprehensive clinical capabilities, enhanced workflow and user-friendly ergonomics. It delivers a higher level of diagnostic confidence with excellent 2D, 4D, color Doppler and contrast agent imaging capabilities.
Complementing the mammography, MRI and ultrasound products exhibited at NCBC, Siemens' portfolio of breast care solutions also includes an array of molecular imaging, oncology and information technologies.
