The Healthcare Industry Group Purchasing Association (HIGPA), a lobby made of 16 big group purchasing organizations, has changed its name to the Healthcare Supply Chain Association (HSCA).

The Washington, D.C.-based organization said the new name better reflects the services its members offer.

"[O]ur role within the supply chain has also evolved," Curtis Rooney, the group's president, said in a statement.

GPOs use aggregate purchasing volume of member hospitals to negotiate lower prices with manufacturers and suppliers. But they've also started offering analytics and other tools to their members.
