Novation LLC., one of the biggest U.S. group purchasing organizations, said Thursday it signed MRI scanner supply deals with six OEMs.

The Irving, Texas-based GPO awarded two-year agreements to Esaote, Hitachi Medical, GE Healthcare, Philips Healthcare, Siemens Medical and Toshiba America Medical Systems. The deals last from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2014, with an option for another two one-year extensions.

The agreements cover scanners, upgrades, accessories, refurbished equipment and service.

"Not only do these agreements provide the assurance of firm pricing, but they also provide peace-of-mind regarding equipment upgrades and service," Pete Allen, senior vice president, sourcing operations at Novation, said in a statement.

Last year, the health care organizations that work with Novation, VHA Inc., UHC, and Provista, LLC, used its contracts to buy $40 billion worth of goods and services.
