Specialized Training Programs:

Technologist Training
The Cooperative Medical Technology Program of Akron is a joint educational effort among the three major hospitals in Akron, Ohio -- Akron Children's Hospital, Akron General Medical Center and Summa Health System (Akron City, Cuyahoga Falls General and St. Thomas hospitals).

The Cooperative Medical Technology Program of Akron is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences.

Radiography School
Radiography education prepares students to perform imaging examinations and to assist radiologists in locating broken bones and identifying diseased body systems and organs.

The Radiography School at Akron Children's Hospital is a two-year program affiliated with The University of Akron in teaching the art and science of general diagnostic radiography (formerly called X-ray technology).

Our program is fully accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), an authorized accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education and the Ohio Department of Health.

Nursing Training
Nurses at Akron Children's Hospital are committed to providing high-quality nursing care, using the latest techniques, technology and equipment, while at the same time creating a warm, nurturing environment for children and their families. We achieve this commitment by delivering family-centered care and support services designed to ease the burden a child's illness can place on the family as a whole.

Nurses here act as teachers and problem-solvers, helping families learn more about their child's illness and how to manage it. These efforts are complemented by the work of child life specialists and social workers. These health care professionals help children and their families understand and cope with the stress of illness. They also work with families to identify their special needs and point them toward community services and resources that may be helpful.
