DOTmed: Please outline the scope of this project.
Los Alamitos Medical Center in Los Alamitos, Calif. will begin construction on a 1,000+ space parking structure and on a 3-story medical office building.
Both structures will be built on the existing medical center campus. When complete, the parking structure will be a convenient and spacious parking facility for patients, visitors, and staff. The new medical office building will be built along Katella Ave. adjacent to the Total Care Pavilion. The parking facility will be directly across from both buildings.
The three-story parking structure will include six levels of parking, charging stations for electric vehicles, reserved parking for vanpool and carpool vehicles, and other modern amenities that meet environmental requirements. The medical office building will include an urgent care center and physician offices. Once the new building is complete, physicians can transition into the new building as we prepare other areas of the campus for future development.
The construction process is expected to last between 12 and 18 months. The hospital staff, medical office staffs, and vendors will be able to park off site during the construction to make parking available for patients. Only patients, visitors, and physicians will be able to park at the hospital during construction. The hospital is offering a shuttle service for those using the remote parking location during this time. Patients and visitors parking at the hospital will be able to ride trams to various campus buildings and parking lots.
DOTmed: How will this project help the community you serve?
"This is an exciting time for Los Alamitos Medical Center," said Scott Rifkin, hospital Chief Operating Officer. "In just a short year from now, we should see the completion of a beautiful parking structure that will be convenient for patients and visitors. It is something we’ve wanted to do for a long time."
