7th Annual Oncology Update: Advances and Controversies

Goal
The goal of this course is to provide information and discussion on new and innovative advances in oncology. This course is also designed to cover all of the disciplines that are involved in sarcoma, proton therapy, neuro-oncology, colorectal, melanoma, endocrine, urology, thoracic head and neck, breast, pancreas, and liver cancers.

Target Audience
This program will be of interest to surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, resident trainees, primary care physicians, advanced nurse practitioners and nurses involved in oncologic care.

Educational Objectives
After attending the conference, participants should be able to

* apply multimodality treatment to solid tumors including breast, melanoma, pancreatic, endocrine, rectal, hepatic, genitourinary, and sarcoma;
* define new treatment approaches to glioblastoma multiforme;
* identify new treatment approaches for esophageal and lung cancer;
* define the role of targeted agents in the treatment of colorectal cancer, sarcoma, renal cell carcinoma, and lung cancer;
* identify new radiation therapy techniques and applications.

Evaluation
A course evaluation form will provide participants with the opportunity to review each session and speaker, to identify future educational needs, and to comment on any perceived commercial bias in the presentations.

Accreditation/Credit Designation
The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center designates this educational activity for a maximum of 21.50 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Conference Agenda
The conference will begin with registration, and a welcome reception from 4:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 13 followed by an evening session from 5:00-7:00 p.m. All other sessions will run from 7:00-9:00 a.m. and 4:30-7:00 p.m. on January 14-17.

Current Trends in Oncology Nursing

Educational Objectives
After attending the conference, participants should be able to

* describe and discuss future trends in oncology nursing to include molecular targeted therapies and symptom management strategies;
* identify and discuss key issues relevant to advances in radiation therapy, healing difficult wounds, and pain management.

Nursing Credits
Nursing Continuing Education Contact Hours will be awarded.

The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is an approved
provider of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Centers Commission on Accreditation. This activity meets Type I criteria for mandatory continuing education requirements toward relicensure as established by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas.

On-site registration for the Saturday, January 13, Current Trends in Oncology Nursing Conference opens at 6:30 am at The Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel & Conference Center, Priest Creek Foyer.

On-site registration for the 7th Annual Oncology Update: Advances and Controversies, will open at 4:00 pm, followed by a Welcome Reception from 4:00-5:00 pm and the conference will begin at 5:00 pm on Saturday, January 13, 2007, and will adjourn at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, January 17, 2007. Advance registration is encouraged as space and materials are limited. Please see
