February 04, 2016, ASRT -- Image Wisely, a campaign that promotes lowering the amount of radiation used in medically necessary imaging and eliminating unnecessary procedures, recently received its 40,000th pledge.

“As a founding member of Image Wisely, the ASRT applauds this milestone of 40,000 pledges. It’s a real testament to our community’s commitment to responsible imaging practices,” said Greg Morrison, M.A., R.T. (R), ASRT chief operating officer and a member of the executive committee of Image Wisely. “We also believe it will add further value to the pledge for stakeholders to now renew their commitments annually.”

Starting in 2016, pledges to Image Wisely must be renewed annually and will expire on Dec. 31 every year. Pledges may be taken by individual medical imaging professionals, associations, educational programs and imaging facilities. Health care facilities that participate in the program are now required to be accredited and participate in a dose index registry to make their annual pledge.

All individuals who pledge to Image Wisely for 2016 may print a dated certificate to document their pledge. Facilities that have pledged are permitted to download the Image Wisely logo to promote their participation in the campaign. In addition, associations, educational programs and imaging facilities may choose to have their names posted to an Image Wisely Honor Roll.

Image Wisely is a joint initiative of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, American College of Radiology, Radiological Society of North America and American Association of Physicists in Medicine.
