Philips Expands Choices in Pulse Oximetry Monitoring
December 05, 2006
Andover, Mass. Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) has announced the availability of a new Multi-Measurement Server (MMS) with Masimo® SET SpO2 technology that works with the entire portfolio of Philips MMS compatible IntelliVue patient monitors. This new product represents additional clinical choice, and enables customers to standardize on Masimo technology.
Seamless data is a major asset of the new Philips MMS with Masimo SET SpO2
. The MMS is lightweight and compact and stores up to eight hours of data.
Ideal for patient transfer, it detaches and travels with the patient, then can be reinserted into any other Philips IntelliVue MMS compatible monitor. Upon reconnection, it uploads stored transfer Masimo SET SpO2 data and other patient data.
Philips also offers a Masimo SET single-width module. The Multi-Measurement Server (MMS) with Masimo SET SpO2 is a new, extended offering. The MMS and the Masimo SET single-width module work with Masimo LNOP and LNCS sensors.
The new Philips MMS with Masimo SET SpO2 technology is applicable in many care settings. It is particularly relevant in neonatal intensive care where care teams can now measure dual channel SpO2 using Masimo SET pulse oximetry (MMS and Module).
“Pulse oximetry is becoming more important in a wide variety of care settings,” said Deborah DiSanzo, senior vice president and general manager, Patient Monitoring, for Philips Medical Systems. “We want to ensure that our customers can choose the optimal SpO2 technology for their clinical needs.”
“We are pleased to offer Masimo SET in a Philips MMS,” said Mohamed Elmandjra, president, Worldwide OEM Business, for Masimo. “We believe clinicians and patients will benefit from the performance and reliability of Masimo SET pulse oximetry with Philips integration of Masimo SET across the entire IntelliVue product line. The performance and reliability of Masimo SET pulse oximetry helps clinicians accurately monitor this important parameter.”

About Masimo
Masimo develops innovative monitoring technologies that significantly improve patient care—helping solve "unsolvable" problems. In 1995, the company debuted Read-Through Motion and Low Perfusion pulse oximetry, known as SET, and with it virtually eliminated false alarms and increased pulse oximetry's ability to detect life-threatening events. More than 100 independent clinical studies have confirmed that Masimo SET technology allows clinicians to accurately monitor blood oxygen saturation in critical care situations—establishing the technology as the “gold standard” pulse oximetry and substantially contributing to improved patient outcomes. In 2005 Masimo introduced Masimo Rainbow SET Pulse CO-Oximetry, which, for the first time, noninvasively monitors the level of carbon monoxide and methemoglobin in the blood, allowing early detection and treatment of potentially life-threatening conditions.
Masimo, founded in 1989, has the mission of "Improving Patient Outcome and Reducing Cost of Care by Taking Noninvasive Monitoring to New Sites and Applications." Additional information about Masimo and its products may be found at www.masimo.com.

Philips Also Introduces Two Reusable SpO2 Pulse Oximetry Sensors Offering
Hospitals an Expanded Choice for Patient Care
Andover, Mass. – Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) has received 510(k) clearance and is now shipping two new adult reusable SpO2 pulse oximetry sensors for monitoring oxygen saturation. The new clip- and glove-style SpO2 sensors complement Philips’ proven line of reusable and disposable sensors, giving hospitals a choice of sensors to meet their clinical requirements.
SpO2 sensors measure blood-oxygen saturation, which is an important parameter in the clinical environment. The new clip sensor is easy to apply and reposition, so it is ideal for spot-check monitoring in low-acuity, respiratory care and other environments. It comfortably fits patients weighing more than 88 pounds (40 kilograms). In addition, the new glove-style sensor provides durability and is suitable for a wide range of patients as it can accommodate both small and large patient fingers.
“The new clip-style sensor offers our customers a wider selection of reusable sensors to better address the needs for spot checking or short-term monitoring,” said Jim Polewaczyk, senior director and general manager, medical consumables, for Philips Medical Systems. “With a broader portfolio of sensors, our customers have greater flexibility to comfortably and accurately monitor patients across the continuum of care.”
The new reusable SpO2 sensors are compatible with Philips (including Agilent and Hewlett-Packard) and other qualified monitors. In addition, all Philips sensors are compatible with Philips FAST-SpO2 algorithm technology, which allows the differentiation of artifact noise and patient signal that leads to an improved SpO2 measurement.
