Varian releases software for simplifying X-ray system design

May 09, 2016
May 9, 2016, Varian -- Varian Medical Systems, Inc. (NYSE: VAR), today announced the release of new computer aided engineering (CAE) software for simplifying the process of designing shielding and radiological protection systems. Varian's new Attila4MC software provides engineers, using Monte Carlo N-Particle Code (MCNP®) in their product designs, with an intuitive graphical user interface (GUI) that simplifies and accelerates the calculation process. Varian further expects Attila4MC to be particularly useful for research involving medical physics and nuclear engineering.

"Our goal in developing Attila4MC was to help MCNP users be more productive," said Greg Failla, senior manager, Attila Product Line at Varian. "Attila4MC enables organizations to more effectively incorporate Monte Carlo simulation results into their product designs, and we are committed to helping users improve the ease, speed, and confidence of their calculations."

Attila4MC enables engineers to reduce analysis bottlenecks through several capabilities, including:

-Robust CAD integration

-Graphical User Interface (GUI) based calculation setup

-Automated variance reduction

Attila4MC users have the opportunity to shorten the analysis cycle and to more efficiently utilize detailed Monte Carlo simulation results to optimize the safety, reliability and performance of the products they are developing.

Varian also offers an optional CAD add-on with Attila4MC, providing part-time users the full power of solid modeling at their fingertips. For more information on Attila4MC, visit www.varian.com/news/attila4mc.

"We are continually searching for ways to deliver more value to our customers by providing faster simulations," said Birgit Wortmann, who holds a doctorate of engineering and is deputy head of Nuclear Physics, STEAG Energy Services GmbH. "We are convinced that Attila4MC provides a good opportunity to run MCNP simulations faster and provide more timely results."
