Firelands Regional Medical Center is located in Erie County in north central Ohio. We provide comprehensive diagnostic, medical, surgical, emergency and rehabilitation services for people of all ages. Thanks to an outstanding medical staff and dedicated employees, Firelands Regional Medical Center has earned a state-wide reputation for quality.

The Education Program at Firelands Regional Medical Center

Firelands Regional Medical Center provides a high quality, didactic lecture series in a state-of-the-art conference center. In addition, OMT Rounds are held regularly to advance the osteopathic distinctiveness of education at Firelands. Medical Grand Rounds are held twice monthly and Cancer Conferences are every Friday morning. For variety and fun, medical game shows are hosted periodically throughout the year.

Firelands Regional Medical Center announced $150 million expansion over the next few years. The project will entail a Patient Tower, a Cancer Center, and a Parking Garage. The Tower will be four stories and house 47 medical and surgical beds, 38 step down and critical care beds, space for ten operating room suites with prep and recovery areas, as well as a Heart Center layout with invasive and noninvasive cardiology services in contiguous spaces.

Orthopedic Residency
The osteopathic orthopedics residency program at Firelands Regional Medical Center is designed to accommodate the individual learning needs of osteopathic physicians who have completed an American Osteopathic Association approved internship, and plan to pursue a career in orthopedic surgery. The program provides the osteopathic resident with advanced and concentrated training in orthopedic surgery and prepares the resident for examination for certification in orthopedic surgery.

The specialty of orthopedic surgery consists of the investigation, restoration and development of the form and function of the extremities, spine and associated structure by medical, surgical and physical methods. The purpose of the osteopathic orthopedic residency program is to: 1) provide continuity of didactic and clinic experience which will enable the resident to become proficient in examination, diagnosis and treatment of orthopedic patients, while integrating osteopathic principles and practice as they relate to the specialty; and 2) provide the resident with properly organized, progressive responsibility in the care of patients.

The Director of Medical Education and Orthopedics Residency Director shall guide the residents through the educational process with the goal of producing highly skilled and qualified osteopathic physicians.

At Firelands Regional Medical Center we are dedicated to the teaching staff's emphasis of medical education over the resident's service to the institution.

Internal Medicine Residency
Our internal medicine residency program at Firelands Regional Medical Center promises to be an exceptional training experience for physicians pursuing a career in internal medicine. Through our three-year program, residents will be challenged to develop solid history and physical exam skills, excellent office and hospital procedure skills and an overall understanding of the art of internal medicine. Those residents who successfully complete our program will find themselves to be consummate internists, capable of expertly delivering the care necessary for either a traditional internal medicine practice, which includes both office and hospital work, or a nontraditional practice, which focuses on only office or hospital work.

Residents who choose to train at our facility will benefit from our Program Director's 16 years of teaching expertise and his broad experience with solo, group and multi-group practices. His responsibilities as a hospitalist and as a department head also give him valuable teaching perspectives and opportunities.
As a complement to our training program, we will offer internal medicine residents exposure to the nutritional management of medical problems and to the spiritual aspect of medicine. In addition, a variety of qualified professionals will provide our residents with continuous instruction in the business component of a medical practice.
