Continuing Medical Education
The School of Medicine at the State University of New York at Stony Brook is located on the North shore of Long Island, 60 miles east of New York City. The Office of Continuing Medical Education (CME) was established shortly after the opening of the Medical School and since 1979 has been fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education as a sponsor of CME. The Medical School has over 500 faculty members representing all specialties of medicine who are available to teach within our active CME program.
The Office of Continuing Medical Education offers a broad spectrum of CME activities addressing a variety of medical topics and utilizing varied instructional methods. These include programs designed to: teach new skills using workshops, simulated patients or live-case presentations; update physicians with new information to improve prevention, diagnosis and management of diseases; and provide a comprehensive update and intensive review in a field of medicine. Teleconferencing, monographs, web-based and other self-directed learning methods are also available.

OBJECTIVES
The rapid advances in diagnosis and treatment makes continuing updating important for the family practitioner. This five-day course is designed to cover current and common areas of clinical practice, including integrated topics in allergy, biomarkers, cardiovascular disease, communicable disease, dermatology, endocrinology, ethics, geriatrics, gynecology, imaging, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, pediatrics, professionalism, pulmonology, psychiatry and behavioral medicine, preventive medicine, rheumatology, and surgery. Included is a full day of hands-on practical experience in Stony Brook's new Clinical Skills Center.
Upon completion of the program, participants should be able to:
*determine the differential diagnosis and clinical management of problems frequently encountered in family practice.
*use and interpret currently available diagnostic techniques.
*recognize the appropriate applications of and select from among currently available therapeutic modalities.
*apply skills in problem-solving, including eliciting pertinent history, performing physical examination, gathering and evaluating diagnostic data, making clinical decisions, implementing therapy and providing continuous care.
* perform appropriate preventive procedures and patient counseling to promote and maintain health and prevent disease.
*identify problems failing to respond to management as anticipated and necessitating consultation to confirm the diagnosis and/or plan management, as well as those conditions requiring referral for definitive care.
CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION CREDITS
The School of Medicine, State University of New York at Stony Brook, is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians. The School of Medicine, State University of New York at Stony Brook designates this activity for a maximum of 35 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

FULL FIVE DAY RATE - $650. Physicians
$525 Residents (note from training director required) and Other Health Professionals.
DAILY LECTURE RATE (each day for up to 4 lecture days) - $125 Physicians

ONLY CLINICAL SKILLS TRAINING DAY, SUNDAY, June 3, 2007 - $175 per person
