WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed) today announced that Fielding Greaves has joined the organization as director of state government & regional affairs, to head up the association’s first regional U.S. office.

Greaves will be based out of Sacramento, Calif., and will be leading the association’s government affairs efforts in the western United States. He will work in coordination with AdvaMed staff to develop and implement advocacy strategies to influence policy issues at the state level, as well as serve as a liaison to regional groups.

“We’re excited to be opening our first regional office in a state with such a strong concentration of medtech companies on the cutting-edge of innovation, and we couldn’t ask for a better person to lead this office than Fielding,” said Scott Whitaker, president and CEO of AdvaMed. “He has experience in the California state legislature and a keen understanding of the state’s policies, priorities, and key players. That knowledge will prove to be incredibly valuable as we continue to address important issues on the state and regional levels.”

“Fielding has a reputation for getting things done and is experienced at building coalitions and forging consensus,” said JC Scott, AdvaMed chief advocacy officer and head of external affairs. “He will add tremendous value and energy to the government affairs team and will be an asset to all our members, particularly those with a west coast presence.”

Prior to his new role at AdvaMed, Greaves was the legislative director for California Assembly member Jim Frazier and worked as an aide for Senator Bob Wieckowski and Senator Richard Pan, M.D. His professional career in state politics is supplemented by previous roles as director for consulting firm JPM&M, and policy assistant for the California Chamber of Commerce.

Greaves holds a law degree from McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific, and served as a board member and officer for the William Jefferson Clinton Democrats, and as finance director for the New Leaders Council.

AdvaMed member companies produce the medical devices, diagnostic products and health information systems that are transforming health care through earlier disease detection, less invasive procedures and more effective treatments. AdvaMed members range from the largest to the smallest medical technology innovators and companies.
