Siemens Healthineers' MAGNETOM Terra became the world's first 7T MR system FDA cleared for diagnostic imaging today.

This comes almost 20 years after 3T MR was cleared for clinical imaging. With the system's ultra-high-field strength, clinicians may be able to visualize previously unseen anatomical structures.

The Dual Mode feature is what allows the user to switch from the investigational research mode to the new clinical mode for imaging. The research data and clinical images are displayed on separate databases.

The MAGNETOM Terra is ideal for performing neurological and musculoskeletal exams on patients that weigh over 66 pounds. It comes with two coils that are specifically optimized for clinical neuro and knee imaging.

The 80/200 gradients generate enough power to perform diffusion MR and fMR and the Simultaneous Multi-Slice application accelerates those exams for clinical use.

This system has more than double the signal-to-noise ratio of a standard 3T system. Its hyper-fast image reconstruction technology also makes it up to 20 times faster than previous generations of 7T research systems.

The syngo MR E11 software platform allows users to work in the same manner that they would with Siemens' 1.5T and 3T systems.

The Zero Helium boil-off feature reduces evaporation when the system is in standby and operational modes. The magnet, which is 50 percent lighter than any other 7T magnet on the market, can be shipped cold by airfreight.
