Detection Technology unveils Aurora X-ray detector family for industry

Detection Technology is setting out to simplify digital X-ray imaging with the launch of its digital detection product family, Aurora.
Comprised of a variety of standalone detectors, the plug-and-play type solution offers a simplified system design with a high level of integration, speeding up time-to-market and delivering total cost savings for OEMs and system integrators.
“Our Aurora design takes the level of integration to new heights by reducing the number of PCBs on dual energy solutions and eliminating the need for separate arrays, sockets, pre-amplifiers, AD-converters, buffers, connectors and analog busses,” Kari Hyvärinen, vice president of security and industrial business unit at Detection Technology, said in a statement. “Fewer parts in the bill of materials mean minimized risks, a streamlined supply chain, and a detector solution that is mechanically more robust and digitally enhanced.”
The design of the solution mitigates noise from different sources including electromagnetic interferences caused by conveyor motors, power supply, X-ray tube high voltage, and disturbances produced by other radio frequencies.
Users can access the lowest noise through an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC), designed with three operating modes: constant time, continuous and non-continuous. It also includes built-in pixel binning options of x2, x4 and x8, the longevity of which, along with its use in target applications, is ensured by its moisture-protected micro-BGA package.
Quality signal level and performance optimization of the imaging chain can be achieved using the solution’s 127 gain options, with its design reducing bottlenecks such as slow and noise-sensitive analog video bus and limited data rates, and creating a clear path for signals.
Additional features include its multiple scintillator options for various energy ranges in single and dual energy imaging applications; a backward compatible mechanical outline and software interface for upgrading line-scanners; and its ability to reduce leakage currents created by humidity as well as dirt or contaminants in pins and socket.
"Aurora provides superior image quality and a fully digitalized data path in the most robust, modular and easily scalable platform,” Hyvärinen said in a statement. “Aurora is powered by an application-optimized, single chip ASIC that effectively mitigates the impact of external interference.”
The solution is designed to meet the requirements of Industry 4.0, the fourth industrial revolution and will be on display from October 23-26 at the Security China 2018 show, which will be held at the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing.
