WASHINGTON, D.C. - AdvaMed has announced the appointment of Khatereh Calleja as its new associate vice president of technology and regulatory affairs. She will play a lead role in the association's policy efforts in the diagnostics sector.

"Khatereh joins AdvaMed as FDA is implementing the provisions of the MDUFMA II legislation many of which will streamline the review of diagnostics tests," said Janet Trunzo, executive vice president, technology and regulatory affairs. Khatereh's experience dealing with challenging regulatory issues will strengthen AdvaMed's efforts to increase patient access to emerging diagnostic tests.

Calleja most recently served as federal affairs manager at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Prior to that, Calleja led the association's effort to gain FDA approval for silicone breast implants. Prior to that, Calleja directed legislative and regulatory affairs outreach activities at the American Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.

Calleja earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Emory University and a juris doctor from Villanova University.
