Frost & Sullivan has awarded its 2022 Global New Product Innovation Award, a designation for companies that have designed technologies that create disruptive breakthroughs in their respective industries, for the best digital radiographer detector.

The global market intelligence firm applies a rigorous analytical process to evaluate each nominee for its awards. This year’s award went to Carestream Health for the CARESTREAM Lux 35 Detector, a lightweight, glass-free wireless solution that “encompasses all of the attractive features of different digital radiography (DR) detectors in a single solution, making it the industry’s best DR detector,” according to Frost & Sullivan.

The 14” x 17” detector is Carestream’s lightest to date, weighing around five pounds, including with the battery. It is easy to transport and has additional ergonomic features that reduce stress and fatigue for radiographers; make positioning easier, especially for bedridden patients; and make exams more comfortable for patients.

“With our first cesium iodide, glass-free Lux 35 Detector for the medical space, we provide a solution that is lightweight and provides superb resolution and better detail, and a reduced exposure as compared with gadolinium detectors,” said Dharmendu Damany, chief technology officer at Carestream, in a statement.

Carestream launched the solution in March 2021, modeling it after its glass-free detector in the rugged non-destructive testing market.

The Lux 35 Detector supports various image-processing options, including tube and line visualization, pneumothorax visualization, EVP Plus, and bone suppression. Its ImageView Software is powered by Eclipse for compatible DRX equipment made by Carestream, and the battery is backward-compatible, making it usable with DRX Plus Detectors and compatible with the same battery charger.

In its decision, Frost & Sullivan also said Carestream displayed a customer-centric philosophy through its eXceed Program, in which employees assess clients’ needs and develop solutions tailored to each individual one in order to establish long-term relationships and satisfactory customer experiences.

“Frost & Sullivan applauds Carestream’s commitment to customer prioritization that has successfully culminated in efficient product delivery,” said Ojaswi Rana, best practices research analyst at Frost & Sullivan.
