Sirona Medical, a developer of cloud-native radiology workflow solutions, has integrated SpaceX’s high-speed internet Starlink platform with its technology, allowing users to remotely view and interpret images and other types of data from anywhere in the world, as well as install upgrades faster.

Sirona Workspace is the first cloud-native RadOS platform, designed to be a single universal reading platform that facilitates equitable access to disparate IT sources.

SpaceX’s Starlink platform speeds up the ability to access information, allowing users to access their first image in 2.3 seconds and speech-to-text latency in less than 500 milliseconds.

"One of the biggest challenges to radiology's cloud transition over the last five years has been performance — principally image load times for PACS," said Raghu Nyamagoudar, VP of Engineering at Sirona. "As of today, not only has Sirona definitively solved these problems, but we've solved them for every radiologist in the country.

Starlink provides connectivity via air, sea, land, and at fixed sites to businesses and for personal use. Its download speed is 40-220+ Mbps; its upload speed, 8-25+ Mbps; and is upload latency, 20-60 ms. This new workflow is available to clinicians from anywhere in the U.S. and will soon be accessible to all worldwide.

When used, the Sirona Workspace’s unification of disparate data sources alone increased clinicians' efficiencies by as much as 25%, says SpaceX and Sironia Medical. Sirona Workspace is hosted on Amazon Web Services, and has one HL7 feed and one upgrade that require no integration retesting. It can overlay PACS & RIS; preventing the need to rip and replace applications. It also facilitates faster onboarding and training and provides transparent SaaS billing on a per-report basis.

The solution comes with a secure, zero-footprint, diagnostic viewer accessible from anywhere; an intuitive and simple-to-use reporter system; a cloud-native PACS archive; a universal worklist.; and intelligent automation to boost workflow efficiency. The company deploys these solutions among radiologists, IT managers and practice managers.

Sirona Medical will demonstrate the capabilities feasible with its platform and Starlink as part of its product launch on November 13.
