ECRI Institute of Plymouth Meeting, PA, has enhanced its Alerts Tracker™ Web-based alert and recall management system. ECRI Instittue, an independent nonprofit organization with worldwide offices, researches approaches to improving patient care.

The Alerts Tracker system improves ability to respond to safety alerts through distribution of an alert to the appropriate facility staff. The most recent changes include broader coverage of healthcare products and new alert filters, such as a geographic filter--included in the system to allow hospitals to limit distribution of alerts to those of potentially affected products distributed in their country. Users benefit from coverage of international alert information sources while saving time and attention by screening out the large number of alerts that are specific to other countries.

Further enhancement implementations in the broadening of medical devices coverage now includes blood, food, and drug alerts, including those from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Current users have been very enthusiastic about Alerts Tracker, saying that the system encourages staff to work together, has critical information to be shared in key departments, and is a good move for speed and efficiency in information.
