Mayo Clinic Health System has unveiled a new $215 million, six-level, 96-bed hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin, which aims to enhance both patient care and staff efficiency as it replaces an existing facility.

The La Crosse hospital is Mayo Clinic Health System's largest construction project to date, featuring specialized areas for cardiac care, radiology, and surgery, along with a rooftop helipad and space for future growth. Its flexible design allows for future technological advancements and enhanced collaboration among care teams.

Key features of the hospital include state-of-the-art imaging equipment, comprehensive labor and delivery suites, and spacious, naturally lit inpatient rooms. The hospital also incorporates digital door displays linked to electronic health records, providing real-time patient information for staff.

Prathibha Varkey, president of Mayo Clinic Health System, emphasized that this new facility aligns with the organization's broader "Bold. Forward. 2030" strategy, which focuses on delivering advanced care close to home. Varkey noted that the hospital supports the health of the community and provides an inspiring environment for staff.

The hospital also prioritizes sustainability, with energy-efficient features like LED lighting and a geothermal heating and cooling system.

Earlier this month, Mayo Clinic and SandboxAQ announced a partnership to test the effectiveness of AI-powered magnetocardiography (MCG) technology for detecting cardiovascular diseases. The CardiAQ imaging system, which has the potential to be less expensive than other diagnostic imaging devices, works by assessing the magnetic signals of the heart.
