NYC Health + Hospitals today announced that Sandra Sneed, MBA, FACHE has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull. She brings more than 20 years of senior leadership experience overseeing operations for hospitals across the country, and she has a strong record of expanding access to services while reducing wait times for patients. Her new position marks a return to NYC Health + Hospitals. She was born at NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens, and she began her career as an occupational therapist at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue and NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County. Sneed becomes CEO of Woodhull Hospital effective March 24. Woodhull Hospital’s current CEO Gregory Calliste will step down after over 9 years leading Woodhull Hospital and 33 years of service to the health system.

Sneed most recently served as the Chief Operating Officer of Memorial Regional Hospital in South Florida, a 700-bed level 1 trauma center. She collaborated with physician, nursing, and imaging leadership across that hospital to achieve Maternal Levels of Care – Level (4) Certification, the highest possible level, by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She oversaw an initiative to improve patient flow through the hospital, which reduced the time patients spent waiting in the Emergency Department for an inpatient bed by 46% in just over a year while also improving the rate of patient discharges and decreasing patients’ average length of stay. She also oversaw efforts to expand surgeries, leading to a 7% increase in case volume over one year.
Sneed’s prior roles include Vice President of Operations and Support Services Officer at Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital (Texas), Interim Chief Operating Officer at Howard University Hospital (Washington, DC), and Vice President of Operations at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center (Ohio). She received her bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy at Utica College of Syracuse University and her master’s degree in business administration with a focus in health administration at Oakland University, Rochester Hills in Michigan. She is married to William Sneed, they have three daughters, and she loves dogs.
Located in North Brooklyn, Woodhull Hospital has over 360 inpatient beds and receives close to 300,000 ambulatory care visits and close to 100,000 emergency room visits each year. Last year, the hospital received a 2024 IPRO Quality Award for reducing the use of urinary catheters and central line catheters and achieving six consecutive quarters free of central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs). In addition, Woodhull Hospital’s bariatric surgery program was recently recognized by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery for providing high quality bariatric care, and it was recognized by US News and World Report for being high performing in care for diabetes and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
