Christus Health has begun construction on an $84 million hospital in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, part of the system’s strategy to expand access to medical care in a growing tourist destination.

The new Christus Muguerza Los Cabos Hospital will be located in the region’s tourist corridor and is scheduled to open in 2028. The facility will span more than 450,000 square feet and house 75 beds, serving a local population of more than 350,000 residents, including approximately 23,000 U.S. citizens.

“We are thrilled to expand our presence in Mexico and provide world-class health care services to Cabo San Lucas, a region that attracts nearly 4 million visitors a year," said Ernie Sadau, Christus Health president and CEO.

Based in Irving, Texas, Christus Health is partnering with the Christus Muguerza Health System to deliver a range of services at the new private hospital. The facility will offer nearly 30 specialties, including cardiology, oncology, gynecology, emergency care, family medicine, pediatrics, and neurosurgery. Plans also include specialized clinics such as a breast clinic.

In addition to traditional medical services, the hospital will integrate emerging technologies, including a virtual assistant for obstetric nursing, predictive algorithms for post-surgical pain management, and artificial intelligence for imaging analysis of the chest and breast.

“Christus is internationally recognized for our innovation, quality and safety in medical care, and most importantly, for providing a unique healing experience,” said Horacio Garza Ghio, general director of Christus Muguerza Health System.

The architectural design, led by Mexico City-based firm FR-EE (Fernando Romero Enterprise), will incorporate local cultural elements, materials, and textures, alongside energy-efficient systems and sustainable building practices.

The hospital is expected to employ 250 clinicians, specialists and other staff upon opening.
