BayCare Health System has begun construction on BayCare Hospital Manatee and an adjoining BayCare HealthHub, marking the health system’s 17th hospital and expanding its footprint into Manatee County, Florida.
The project will bring the county’s first not-for-profit hospital and its only hospital north of the Manatee River. The hospital is projected to open in 2028.
“This groundbreaking represents BayCare’s ongoing commitment to improving health care access for the communities we serve,” said Stephanie Conners, BayCare president and CEO. “BayCare Hospital Manatee and BayCare HealthHub (Manatee) will provide residents with high-quality, compassionate care closer to home and we are proud to bring these essential services to the region.”
The $563 million hospital is expected to have 154 private beds and will include emergency care, specialty surgery, maternity and neonatal services, among other offerings.
The adjacent BayCare HealthHub (Manatee), set to open in 2026, will house outpatient services in a 45,000-square-foot facility. Plans include primary and specialty care, laboratory services, and imaging such as 3T MRI, PET CT, radiology, mammography, ultrasound and DEXA scans.
BayCare currently operates 16 hospitals and numerous outpatient sites across Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas and Polk counties. It is West Central Florida’s largest provider of behavioral health and pediatric services.
The Clearwater-based system said its move into Manatee County reflects long-term plans to meet regional growth and expand access to health care services.
