FREIBURG (GERMANY), CAPE TOWN (SOUTH AFRICA), March 17, 2017 – PTW and Elekta South Africa (Elekta (Pty) Ltd.) have signed an agreement to strengthen their regional partnership and promote dosimetry education in southern Africa. As part of the agreement, PTW will train Elekta customers on PTW dosimetry and quality control equipment as well as provide basic and advanced dosimetry education through its learning platform, the PTW DOSIMETRY SCHOOL.

The hands-on trainings and dosimetry courses will be held at the Elekta Training Center in Cape Town which is one of Elekta’s eight training centers established worldwide to organize training activities and facilitate networking for Elekta customers in their region.

The cooperation will enable both of us to better serve the needs of our customers throughout the region.”

Training that meets the needs of Elekta’s customers
In order to cover the complete spectrum of training needs for Elekta customers, the Cape Town Training Center has been equipped with the latest state-of-the-art Elekta and PTW equipment, including BEAMSCAN™, the new fully automated, wireless water phantom by PTW.  

“Elekta understands the importance of delivering excellent training to our customers to improve radiotherapy results,” says Trevor Sparkes, Director Solutions Education and Training of Elekta Ltd. Crawley. “Cooperating with PTW allows us to extend our physics-based course program and offer our customers a greater variety of training opportunities – from practical hands-on training to workshops to application-specific seminars or scientific lectures.”

The first joint training, which focused on key issues in relative dosimetry and patient plan verification, was held from December 12 - 13, 2016 and welcomed participants from all over Africa. Designed and conducted by PTW and Elekta (Pty) Ltd. application specialists, it offered a balanced mix of theory and practice. “We received a lot of interest and positive feedback,” points out Tino Ebneth, Head of the PTW DOSIMETRY SCHOOL. “There is a strong demand for course offerings that help improve practical skills as well as knowledge in dosimetry, and we are confident to meet this demand, bringing experts from both sides together.”
