GAINESVILLE, Fla. — John Hollingsworth, M.D., has been appointed chief quality officer for UF Health Shands hospitals and practices, effective Aug. 26.

Hollingsworth brings years of experience overseeing quality and patient safety programs, first leading efforts at University of Michigan Health before managing the quality program at NorthShore University HealthSystem in Evanston, Illinois.

“I am thrilled to join UF Health Shands and serve as the chief quality officer,” Hollingsworth said. “In an era where health care is rapidly evolving, my focus will be on enhancing our quality and patient safety programs to meet the challenges that lie ahead. I am eager to collaborate with our talented team and continue advancing the exceptional and innovative care for which UF is known.”

As UF Health Shands’ chief quality officer, Hollingsworth will oversee quality and patient-centered improvement efforts. He will collaborate with staff in clinical risk management, patient experience, accreditation and clinical analysis through the UF Health Sebastian Ferrero Office of Clinical Quality and Patient Safety. Additionally, Hollingsworth will work with physician directors of quality and quality liaisons across the organization.

“Dr. Hollingsworth stood out in part due to his impressive combination of clinical prowess and success as an administrator,” said Steve Motew, M.D., president and system CEO of the UF Health clinical enterprise. “His research record — which encompasses a broad range of health services disciplines — is also remarkable, with 174 peer-reviewed publications to his name as well as a long list of honors and awards. We are looking forward to having him lead our patient safety and quality program.”

Timothy Morey, M.D., chief medical officer for UF Health Shands, took note of Hollingsworth’s experience overseeing patient safety and quality programs.

“In his role directing the quality programs at the University of Michigan Health and at NorthShore, Dr. Hollingsworth demonstrated his ability to successfully oversee accreditation and certification, clinical risk management, and infection prevention and control, and to support clinical operations around the design and execution of quality improvement initiatives,” Morey said. “We are pleased to have him on board here at UF Health.”

Hollingsworth, who graduated from Georgetown University’s School of Medicine in 2002, recently held professor roles at the University of Michigan Medical School and The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He was also an attending physician in the urology division in the department of surgery at the NorthShore University HealthSystem.

Hollingsworth succeeds Nicole Iovine, M.D., Ph.D., chief epidemiologist for UF Health, who served as the interim chief quality officer.
