Digital Imaging Standards Changing--Ampronix Provides a Solution

by Rabia Paracha, Staff Reporter | July 22, 2009

The Modalixx LCD monitor is a medically approved monitor that allows radiologists to be information-centric rather than technology-focused and still keep up with the technology and cutbacks of today's market.

"The quality and price of the monitor was the deciding factor for me when I purchased a Modalixx monitor over a competing model to replace a Philips Fimi LCD," explained Adam Larck, a Digital Solutions Specialist for Radon in Charleston, WV.

Although hospitals and health care facilities also are kept back from switching over from CRT to LCD due to compatibility issues with their current systems, the Modalixx option makes the switch possible and affordable.

The Modalixx Medical Grade LCD monitor auto-syncs to any legacy color or grayscale analog modality and upgrades the signal to clear, sharp, and vivid 2 mega pixel resolution. The unit is also compatible with modality applications, including Cath Lab, MRI, CT, R&F rooms, C-Arm, endoscopy/surgical, Portable X-Ray, and Nuclear Medicine applications.

"I installed the monitor myself and there was nothing for the technologist to know other than viewing the monitor," explains Jack Minter, a Radiology Equipment Specialist at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, CA.

Other aspects of Modalixx include:
· Compatibility with manufacturers including GE, Siemens, Toshiba, Shimadzu, Philips and others.
· Ability to handle low line to high line video signals from 525 to 1,600 horizontal pixels.
· Accepts any combination of BNC connections (including 1-5 BNC and D-SUB 15)
· Includes Intuitive OSD to toggle between dedicated color and grayscale display function.

For those looking for an alternative, Ampronix has also released a multi-modality video signal analyzer called Signamaxx. With the Signamaxx, hospitals and health care facilities are able to create a custom LCD replacement while still using their existing CRT display and corresponding system equipment.
The Signamaxx
Multi-modality video
signal analyzer.

How it works:
Users install simple software to a system and connect the Signamaxx to the video out from a modality. The Signamaxx will detect the system's exact video signal parameters and send this information to Ampronix via email. Ampronix retrieves the information and creates a custom LCD replacement for the existing CRT display.

As PACS, imaging vendors, and the OEMs that specialize in display components are introducing a new generation of calibration and quality control products for digital display, hospitals and health care facilities are bound to take another look at their equipment. While the decision to switch may be uncertain, one this is certain: The standards are changing. Are you keeping up?
