With the Sahara bone sonometer, there's finally an ultrasound modality for bone assessment that is simple, convenient and practical for the office-based physician. Ultrasound bone sonometry is a safe, radiation-free modality that provides precise quantitative assessment of skeletal status, useful in identifying patients at risk of developing osteoporosis and for assessing their risk of future fracture.

Now you can add bone-testing capabilities to your private practice or clinic with the portable, easy-to-use Sahara clinical bone sonometer. In less than a minute, you can estimate a patient's bone mineral density, based on an ultrasound measurement of the calcaneus (heel bone), the preferred peripheral site proven in numerous studies to predict fracture risk.

Fully Dry Operation. No water required! There are no water bladders that can puncture and leak, making it portable and more convenient for patients and operator. It is also simple to Operate. Pressing one button starts and completes the test in just 10 seconds and provides a printed report of patient results. It is compact and Lightweight. Weighing just 22 lbs. (10 kg), Sahara comes equipped with a built-in handle for portability.

Sahara Peripheral Bone Densitometer is a Good Choice

The Hologic Sahara has been a solid performer over the years, and is still fairly popular. The Sahara's advantage over the Achilles from GE is that it doesn't use water. The disadvantage is that the system uses an oil-based gel. Overall, these two factors cancel each other out, making the Sahara a decent alternative over GE's system. The other good thing about the Sahara is the resale price which usually is below that of the Achilles.
