Sterilizer Chamber Life Expectancy Lifespan - Steris - Getinge -
September 23, 2017 02:44
Hey there old timers,
As you may know sterilizers are sometimes rebuilt or refurbished then resold. The main component (the chamber) is usually cleaned and pressure tested n stuff. My question is if anyone has heard of a chamber having a "Life Expectancy"
If so what is the range that it is expected to last? Or is this a ploy to sell more autoclaves.
Thanks guys!supertek0101@gmail.com
I had never heard about a life expectancy of this equipment but quite sure they have it.
Most powerful to find the truth is the service manual or Google directly about it.
Most probably you will be able to keep it working while the chamber is not corroded, valves can be replaced and you can find electronic control board
In Canada, safety of pressure vessels is a provincial responsibility.
The local human authority is a boiler and pressure vessel inspector.
In the US, the analogue is probably state authority; I'm not sure.
Google should help find a contact.
In many or almost all cases, engineering can have precedence over
simple fixed rules. In many contexts, lifespan of a vessel is
determined according to visual and non-destructive inspection, and
tests. This could have precedence over a fixed number of years of
service.
The documentary authority and Canada and the US is the boiler &
pressure vessel code,
and the provincial, state or local code derived from that. The article
mentions 16,000 pages in 28 volumes in 2011. (!) Not so bad once focused
in the appropriate section. Should be available in any university or
big city library and might be on-line by now.
I'd start by asking your sterilizer maintenance service. Then your
local boiler inspector. Then a boiler and vessel maintenance company.
