Those of you who read my blog know I have a high opinion of Diana Upton, the president of IAMERS, and Casper Uldriks, a lawyer who used to work at the FDA.

You can see our online editor Brendon Nafziger had a phone call this week with Diana and Cap, talking mainly about the proposed unique device identifier (UDI) rule.

Like everything else involving the government, nobody knows what will actually happen with the UDI rule.

But depending on how the rule is implemented, it could potentially be a big problem for those in the business of buying and selling equipment.

And by extension, this means it could be a problem for a lot more people, such as for providers and hospital staff that buy refurbished machines. If there are fewer refurbishers, or if they have to charge more to cover their expenses, you'll pay more.

In short, I think you'll find it an interesting story.
