DePuy Synthes, a part of the Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices Companies, unveiled its PUREVUE Visualization System this month at the Orthopedic Summit.

The imaging platform is equipped with features to enable minimally-invasive endoscopic surgery and follows other recent releases by DePuy Synthes including the first 3-D simulation assisted orthopedic external circular fixation device in October, and TRUMATCH CMF Titanium 3-D Printed Implant System in the U.S. in September.

“With Americans living longer and seeking shorter recovery times, the call for minimally-invasive procedures is accelerating,” Stephanie Chamberlain, vice president and global platform leader of DePuy Synthes Mitek Sports Medicine, said in a statement. “We are committed to bringing forward innovation that responds to evolving patient needs and the PUREVUE Visualization System is an example of how our advanced technologies enable high quality patient care.”

An approximate 18.6 million endoscopic procedures take place each year in the U.S., with case efficiency and patient outcomes often correlated to how well surgeons can perceive the targeted anatomy.

The system consists of a light source, image processor, and local image management for reducing the operating room footprint, and uses intuitive touch screen navigation and customizable settings in minimally-invasive surgery applications.

It is also equipped with an autoclavable camera that uses an endoscopy-designed proprietary sensor to deliver native HD image acquisition for a clear view throughout the procedure. This view is further enhanced by multiple monitor options, such as ultra-high-definition 4K. A range of visualization accessories augments the system.

The PUREVUE Visualization System marks the completion of the company’s capital equipment offering in arthroscopy, a type of endoscopic surgery for joint anatomy. The offering also includes the VAPR VUE Radiofrequency System and the FMS VUE Fluid Management and Tissue Debridement System with all three solutions enhancing Mitek Sport Medicine’s portfolio of implants and instrumentation which are used in a wide range of arthroscopic soft tissue procedures.
